Ankle arthroscopy-Inflate the joint with saline
Once the "sweet spot" is identified a white needle and 20ml syringe is used to inflate the joint with saline. The needle needs to be fairly laterally angulated and should not encounter resistance if it is on the correct line. If difficulty is encountered move superiorly or inferiorly a few mm each time. If there is a large cheilus medially it may be necessary to use a lateral portal initially.
