Post operative protocol
The first 24 hrs in below knee backslab (whilst blocks are working and wounds are oozing)
Thereafter into aircast walking boot for weight bearing. Partial weight bear week 1-6. Rest in back portion of boot overnight.
Week 7-12 progress off crutches as tolerated.
Check Xrays week 6 and 12 (and then if required).
Into Airsport brace for month 4 and 5.
Drive by week 12, heavy manual activity after 5 months.
If "non standard" fusion, ie avascular necrosis, graft required, neuropathic, then delay weight bearing for first 6 weeks then progress as above.
