This deep sub-periosteal plane is then developed in all directions. A proportion of the deep attachment of the Achilles usually needs to be released (1) to expose the Hagglunds deformity(2). If there is also a large area of calcification within the insertion(as with severe tendinosis) the Achilles will need to be sharp dissected off this.
