Lateral release-The skin incision
The skin incision should extend almost to the First web and come well proximal to the MTP joint for a lateral release.
Medio-laterally it should be placed just adjacent to the lateral border of the first metatarsal , unless the second MTP is to be accessed (eg for a weils) in which case the incision should lie midway between first and second metatarsals.
