Operative indications and cases to be wary of

The Moberg procedure is a variation on the simple debridement and involves "transferring" plantar movement dorsally by dorsally angulating the proximal phalynx , thereby "resetting" its starting position.

The Moberg procedure is used for those with higher functional requirements such as keen sports persons.

The Moberg procedure is not a substitute for a fusion in a severely arthritic joint.

It is important post operatively that some early active movement is begun once soft tissue healing is adequate, between weeks 2 and 3.
