Ankle fusion-The fibula removed
A large bone holding forceps(Lions tooth) is needed for manouvering the fibula(1) as its soft tissues are progressively divided and it is removed.Care should be taken to avoid dividing the peroneal(2) tendons posteriorly. Now the lateral talus(4), tibial incisura(3) and antero-lateral tibia (5) are identified and preparation for ankle fusion can progress.
